TIME TO SCHEDULE YOUR FINAL
It is now the time to schedule your final presentation. This will be done via Skype. The date and time will need to be met because the appointments will be scheduled with no more than 10 minutes between. See your syllabus and the final rubrics for details of what I will be grading on. Your presentation has to be 20 minutes long. if it is less than 15, you will receive NO POINTS for the final. Anyone who has all their work finished will be given first consideration. I will post who has chosen what time both on my blog and here on D2L so that will make choosing the time simpler.

Mid Term
I have graded all papers that were due by mid term. If you want to know your grade for the class, email me and I will give you your grade. For mid term, there were 598 points due. So if you look in the grade book and see 50% percent, that is about the total for the semester.
Having said that, remember, that just because you are making an A for midterm does not mean you will finish the semester with an A. You will need to finish the work for the semester. Just because you have less than an A does not mean you will be unsuccessful at the end. Get your work in.
Now, for those of you who do not have all the 1A,1B,2A, and 2B there is a twist in the grading system. You get 100 points for having ALL the assignments turned in. This is an ALL OR NOTHING point. It is to your advantage to have all the proficiency projects turned in. there is no sliding scale. so if you have 3/4 turned in, that is still a 0-zero. only all four will gain 100 points.
When you have all assignments finished, that includes the observations, you may schedule your final presentation via Skype.

Mid Term
For those of you who have finished your research paper, Congratulations! In order to be successful in this class, this research paper must be done. The mid term exam will be a power point created from the research paper. By now you should have at least 8 of your blog journals finished and at least one of your observations, Observation1. All of your proficiency project pieces, 1A, 1B, 2A and 2B should be finished. After mid term( Check the due dates paper for the exact date,) I will grade papers and lock the drop boxes for those items.
For those of you who have struggled, the good news is that from here on out, you only have a few assignments left.
1. Make sure Skype is set up and I have your skype address.
2. Finish the last two observations
3. Finish your blog assignments
4.Do your final presentation with me, using Skype.
This will allow you to focus on your finals for your other classes. Most of the work in this class is done in the first half of the semester.
I hope you are reading your textbook. There is a lot of good information there and none of the chapters are too long or too technical.
Good work, Spring of 2012 Communications class. You have made it half way!

Good turnout
We had a great turnout this week for those students who wanted some hands on training with Communications class. We did blogs, Skype and went over our D2L webpage. One student, Isces, came because she knew she would be a big help and believe me, she was. We are drawing close to the mid term and if you are current on your assignments, you are almost done with the hard part.
By the Way, Journal 7 requires that you watch a full episode of What Not To Wear. You can go on line and type in.
You tube... what not to wear, full episode
into your search bar. then you can watch it online.
if you have cable, it is on channel 40 on Tuesday nights at 8pm,
You can also see it many days during the day at 11am on that same channel.

Alert! Research proposal
You just need to send me a couple of sentences IN THE DROPBOX MARKED RESEARCH PROPOSAL on what you want to research. I might help you tweak it but get it in.

RESEARCH Topic
I have just approved several research topic proposals. If you haven't done so, please select a topic and submit that to the dropbox. I always am delighted by the subject about which my students are passionate. Looking forward to approving yours. One of my favorite things would be manhole covers. I first became interested in those when reading books by Tana Hoban. She is a photographer that takes interesting everyday things and turns them into pictures for children to use to identifiy shapes. I have taken pictures like this everywhere from Las Vegas to New Orleans. There is beauty under our feet. Makes me marvel that some one is designing beauty for people to tramp under foot.

Poem- .http://www.daycareanswers.com/poems-for-daycare-providers.html
There was a provider who lived in a shoe
But being professional, she knew what to do.
She made best use of the space she could spare
And set up her home for family child care.
She registered with the state, called USDA,
Checked in with her R & R the very next day.
She knew she would need help in her situation,
The answer was joining a provider association.
She took CPR and First Aid classes, too
And brushed up on all the things kids like to do.
She advertised, interviewed, contracted, and then
She counted the kids carefully -- no more than ten.
She fed them good foods and recorded it, too.
She potty-trained Jake; helped Mark tie his shoe.
Collected art items and made a new batch of clay
And cut out cute pictures for a new theme's display.
She diapered, she bandaged, she wiped every nose.
She comforted Tim when Sue stepped on his toes.
She cooked and she washed, scrubbing floors, scraping glue.
She recorded attendance; did her bookkeeping, too.
She wrote parents notes home 'bout the kids in her care,
Anecdotes and concerns that they'd want her to share.
She read to the children while they sat in her lap
And she sang to them softly when they started to nap.
She called a provider who was feeling depressed.
She spoon-fed the baby, then got him redressed.
She picked up and dusted when they went out the door.
She updated records, picked up toys, mopped the floor.
She started the laundry, checked the mail, made a list
Of the groceries she needed and the chores that she'd missed.
She collapsed in a chair and put up her feet,
Then in came her family wanting something to eat.
She fed them all quickly, heard their stories, gave them hugs,
Then she rapidly washed up all the dishes and mugs.
As the family retired at the end of the day
She got out some books to study for her CDA.
She reflects on her day, in her eye there's a gleam,
For this provider is developing pride and esteem.
She works a long day and the pay isn't fair,
But the kids that she works with get quality care.
Their parents commute to their work sites each day,
Concerns about child care aren't in their way.
They are free to produce at a marvelous rate,
Which benefits business all over the state.
If you live in a big house or even a shoe,
Great is the work a provider can do.
Be proud, stand up tall, wear a smile on your face,
You are helping "tomorrow" be a much better place!

Proficiency Project 1B
This assignment will require that you have Microsoft Publisher on your computer.
To see if you have it, to Start, in the lower left hand corner of your screen, a menu for programs will pop up, look for Microsoft office, click that, and look for Publisher.
If you don't have this, go to the D2L page where you log in, look for systems information or you can just call the IT people. Their number is listed there.405.744.5000
Contact Webmaster
Just follow the prompts to download Microsoft Office to your computer. it is a free download.
Once you have Publisher,| open this and find the option for Brochure.
It should be a tri fold. then you fill out every area with your own information.
Once again, if you need to make it up, use the same name and address you did for your flyer. Add pictures to it, Tell us something special about your program.
if you leave any area blank, I will see Latin words in that area, that is the way it is set up, and since I don't read Latin, I can't grade it.
The most difficult thing about this assignment is making sure you have Publisher set up on your computer. The information technology people are the ones who will help you with that.

Research Topic Proposal
As some of you have commented, the Research Topic has been left very wide open. This is because part of the educational process is learning how to make decisions, where to research in areas in which you are passionate and being able to move forward independently.
1. Choose an early education topic about which you are passionate.
2. put that idea in a sentence or two
3. put that in the dropbox marked for research topic proposal
4. I will take a look at it and help you narrow it down. for instance, if you said, infants and toddlers, I would ask about what specifically would you research about infants and toddlers. Language development, Secure attachment, etc.
5. once you have the okay,, you can begin to write your paper.

Be sure to put Journal (and the correct number) in the title box.

welcome, spring class of 2012
Wow, a new year that almost seems like science fiction come to life. I remember a day that society believed we would be driving hover cars by this date and eating food like the Jetson's. Many of you might be too young to remember that cartoon. I will be adding you sometime on Tuesday, 1-24-12.
I hope you have fun in this class and learn lots of new things that you will find helpful.
Get to blogging.
Oh, be sure to set your settings to allow Anonymous comments. You will know I have given you credit for your posts when I comment. I will always put my name on my comments and would encourage you to do the same when you comment on my posts.
